Abstract
ABSTRACT
Fractures are a condition in which the continuity of bone structure is disrupted, potentially impairing the function of the extremities, with lower extremity fractures being the most common cases in Indonesia. One of the treatments for fractures is ORIF surgery, which often results in post-operative pain as a major patient complaint. Although pharmacological therapies are effective in relieving pain, repeated use can cause side effects, necessitating safe and sustainable non- pharmacological therapies. One proven effective non-pharmacological technique is Pursed Lips Breathing a simple, equipment-free breathing exercise that can reduce post-operative pain intensity. Previous studies have shown that PLB significantly reduces pain levels and is easy for patients to perform in various conditions. However, the practical use of this technique remains suboptimal due to limited patient education and understanding of non-pharmacological pain management. This final scientific paper aims to analyze the level of pain in post- operative patients of ORIF with Pursed Lips Breathing intervention at Urip Sumoharjo Hospital, Lampung Province in 2025.. The method used in this scientific work is a nursing care design involving one post-ORIF patient. Pain levels were measured using the Numeric Rating Scale before and after the intervention, which was administered once daily for three days. The results showed that the PLB breathing relaxation therapy helped reduce pain from a level 6 to a level 3. The author suggests that pursed lips breathing relaxation therapy could be a valuable method for managing acute pain in post-operative patients as it is safe, cost-free, and easy to apply.
