Abstract
Abstract
The elderly in Lampung have an increasing number that continues to occur from year to year. In 2022, this province has a number of elderly people reaching around > 800 thousand people or around 37.4%. When aging, a person will experience an aging phase caused by decreased body function due to age factors. Hypertension is one of the diseases that occurs due to the aging process and 67.8% of them end up having a stroke. 90% of cases of stroke due to hypertension are caused by inappropriate stroke prevention behavior. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between perception and family support with stroke prevention behavior in the elderly with hypertension in the Hajimena Health Center work area in 2025. This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The chi-square test showed that positive perceptions about stroke, healthy family support, good stroke prevention behavior were more dominant than others and there was a relationship between perceptions about stroke and stroke prevention behavior in the elderly with a p-value of 0.003 (p <0.05), an odds ratio (OR) of 11,750, and a relationship between family support and Stroke Prevention Behavior in the Elderly, a p-value of 0.002 (p <0.05), an odds ratio (OR) of 19.688. This study is expected to be a reference for implementing good stroke prevention behavior for elderly hypertensives by conducting health education or making leaflets related to good perceptions about stroke and healthy family support which are expected to reduce the risk of stroke in the elderly.
