Abstract
ABSTRACT
Hospitals produce several types of waste, including solid, liquid and gas waste. Because hospitals are complex organizations and waste producers, the waste produced must be processed properly. If not processed properly, it can cause environmental pollution, especially medical waste because it can cause the spread of disease. Hospital waste, especially infectious waste, has not been managed properly. This is because solid medical waste, which is included in B3 waste, is still treated the same as solid non-medical waste, even though solid medical waste must be managed specifically or separately.
This study was conducted to determine the description of solid medical waste management at the Lampung Provincial Mental Hospital in 2025.
The type of research used is descriptive research. This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, which aims to provide an objective overview or description of a particular condition at the Regional Mental Hospital of Lampung Province in 2025.
Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the sources and types of medical waste generated from the Lampung Province Mental Hospital are injection needles, syringes, infusion tubes, infusion bottles, cotton, gauze, bandages, used patient pads, urine sample pots, masks, rapid tests, alcohol swabs, nurse caps, and gloves. The total medical waste generated for 5 months was 352.2 kg. There are several shortcomings in the waste transportation route and at the TPS. Transportation at the Lampung Province Mental Hospital should use a special medical waste route so as not to interfere with activities at the Hospital. It is recommended that the TPS be given a different partition for ordinary infectious waste and sharp objects, waste symbols are installed together with waste type labels, and a prohibition sign is installed for unauthorized persons.
