ABSTRACT

Traditional markets in Indonesia still face various serious problems, especially related to the physical condition of the building and the market's hygiene aspects which are not yet optimal. An environment with inadequate sanitation can have a negative impact on the community who are active in it. Therefore, supervision of environmental sanitation and health is needed. The main purpose of environmental sanitation supervision and control is to prevent the transmission of disease and accidents, by protecting humans and the surrounding environment. Based on the results of initial observations, it was found that the market conditions were smelly, there were no hand washing facilities, the trash bins in each stall were only open baskets that were not waterproof, there were many piles of scattered garbage and the waste channels were not smooth. This study aims to determine the sanitation conditions in the Tanggulangin Traditional Market environment.
This study uses a descriptive approach through observation and interview methods to identify environmental sanitation conditions in Tanggulangin Market. The focus of this study includes the provision of clean water, bathrooms and toilets, waste management, drainage systems, hand washing facilities and control of vectors and disease-carrying animals.
The results obtained indicate that the availability of clean water in Tanggulangin Market has not met the needs in terms of quantity. In addition, there are no hand washing facilities with soap, closed trash bins, and adequate ventilation systems. The Temporary Disposal Site is located on the main market route and is close to trader activities, which causes discomfort for traders and visitors. The drainage system is also not equipped with metal grid covers and the drainage flow is not smooth because there is still a lot of garbage piled up in the channel.
