abstract: The teeth and mouth diseases that are mostly suffered by people in Indonesia are dental supporting tissue diseases and dental caries. The habit of beteling is one example that affects oral health. The habit a person does is by chewing it mixed with betel leaf, areca nut, gambier, and lime and then leaving it in the mouth. From the results of Riskesdas 2018 data, dental caries for the elderly aged 55-64 was 96.8%. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the habit of betel and the incidence of dental caries in the elderly. Based on data obtained from the type of literature study research with descriptive research methods. The conclusion of this study was that there was a relationship between the habit of beteling and the occurrence of dental caries in the elderly (p <0.05).
